Pushups to Pinups | Joanne

My dear friend Jo… what can I say about her? I’ve known Joanne for the majority of my life. I’ve never known her as anything but a great person who is hard working and diligent in her responsibilities as a wife and mother. When she and I first talked about doing the program I was excited and also nervous, I didn’t want to let her down, she had trusted her health and well-being in our hands. I had this image in my head of her and her daughter walking in matching jerseys, I thought this would be a perfect testament to her commitment to her family.

Throughout the 12-weeks her husband would give me updates on Jo, “She’s loving it, I don’t think she’s cheated once this entire time”. We get told that a lot throughout this program but with Jo we knew it wasn’t an exaggeration. She had committed herself to do this and she was going to succeed no matter what.

As we approached the day of her shoot it became obvious that she was nervous, but the nervousness was masked behind her excitement, she’d always come in big smile and say “I don’t know about this photo shoot”, followed by “I think for my shoot I want to do…”, now you see why I was so nervous about letting her down. It’s not easy dealing with that sort of person. One of the worst things that can happen at a photo shoot is somebody coming in close minded and rigid about the shots they want. A photo shoot is a very fluid process, pictures evolve from an original idea to something that is almost unrecognizable from the original shot.

The day of her shoot, Jo’s sister Carla joined us, normally we don’t like having other people at the shoots, “too many cooks” in the kitchen type of thing. Silly me I had forgotten that Carla is a “Rugby Chick” and what this means for those who don’t know, they have a loving way of bullying people into things they might not be comfortable with. And boy did it ever work. Joanne first came out with her jeans and sports bra… I believe “wow” was the general thought at that moment. She looked great, armed with her sidekick Taylor they both lit up the shoot. The mother in her shined through and it looked great on her. Every shoot is a moment of pride for us, but it does run deeper when it’s a long-time friend. Needless to say it was a great day for me, seeing a friend astonished by what she had accomplished makes for one hell of a good day.

Congrats on all your hard work not only in the gym but in everything you tackle in your life. We are all proud of you even though you’re wearing the wrong colour jersey. Go Blue Go!

Great job Jo,
