Resolution #4 – Make SMART Goals

Determination

When it comes to goal setting it’s important to set S.M.A.R.T. goals. Many people bite off more than they can chew when it comes to goals, but the best way to reach your goals is to keep them within reach. So let’s set some goals, right down 2 short term goals (within one month) and one medium term goal (within 2009) and a long term goal (past 2009). When setting your goals keep in mind the following guidelines;
Specific – Goals should focus on what you want to happen.
Measureable – You should be able to put a value on your goals, this makes it easier to see your progress towards your goal.
Attainable
– Is your goal “doable” for you, if you’re a work-a-holic and you set a goal to run 2 hours everyday that goal may not be attainable just yet.
Realistic – Can you actually see yourself going through with this? If not revise, setting a goal to run a marathon this year is a great goal but not realistic for somebody who has never run before.
Timed – Put a goal date… this allows you to set your sights towards that point. This will prevent you from procrastinating.
